`I don't know about anyone else, but as for myself...I was researching a school project and just sort of stumbled on the topic of witches (okay...so I was bored!) but the more I read, the more, it all started to make sense to me.

I had never agreed with all the things our pastor at church would say about about God and Jesus. I guess I just asked too many questions he couldn't answer {smirk} but I realized, the more I read about Pagans, Witches and wiccan... the more the light went on in my head, I mean, finally, here was something that made all my ideas make sense. I actually met a few wiccans at College and everything they were doing felt right. I kept in touch with them over the years and have never regretted my decision to further my Wiccan education.

I hope that this helps you out, beleaver.

`I always had my own beliefs on things, and never believed in any religion. a relative of mine had already discovered wicca, so, I decided to learn about it, already being kinda spiritual with my own belief system, and as I read about it, I realized it's the only religion that described most of my views and beliefs on mostly everything. things that were described about wicca, Witcraft, etc, I already kinda knew, already felt it was true for myself, before even hearing about wiccan/peganism or anything of the sort. that's what drew me too it, it's kinda like finding grounding/footing for my beliefs that I used to think were way too different from others to be understood. :)

`I was born and raised into it (non denom pagan), but my brother tried Buddhism for a while and then went to wiccan. Self discovery i assume and finding his own truths.

`For me it was not that hard to move into Wicca from my own religion. Lakota people already are taught many things that Wiccans believe and practice.
I was already reading mythology books when I was in 2nd and 3rd grade and seeing alot of similar beliefs in other ancient cultures.
Then when I was 12 my mom bought me a deck of tarot cards cuz I was intensely interested in them. from there I moved onto finding articles and books on my own. Eventually I sought out a teacher and I haven't looked back since.

`beeansidhe is right, Wicca and Witchcraft are not the same. A fact that few who are knew to the Craft are able to distinguish right from the get-go. No harm, no foul. I would tell you the difference, but where is the fun in that?? Go research it, find your answers and then bounce it off a forum, much like this one, cross reference ya know?

What draws people to Wicca or Witchcraft?

Freedom.
The majority of mainstream religions in this day and age are Patriarchal, set in stone, claim to be the 'one TRUE and ONLY way' as well as produce a middle man.

In Wicca, you speak directly to deity. There is no middle man.
We aknowledge the fact that without one you can't have the other. We recognize both the MALE and FEMALE sides of deity and that it couldn't possibly be just one or the other. Not without balance, and balance is key.
Wicca leaves pretty much EVERYTHING up to your interpretation. No ritual is the ONLY way to do it. tweak it, make it your own. in the long run, it'll work better than someone else's words.

All in all, Wicca is a religion that embraces Free Will to the fullest extent. That in itself is enough to draw in those who are open to it.
