Ignostic: Not quite the same as agnostic I never could fit my views into any single category, so eventually I quit trying. Whether I "believe in god(s)" or not depends on what one means by the words "believe" and "god." Do I believe in some kind of external, omnipotent, and omniscient spirit-entities who control, reward, and punish? Nope, nope, NOPE! Do I see plenty of evidence that many "gods" "exist" as characters, psychosocial entities, metaphors, memes, narratives, or whatever you want to call them, and that they have very measurable effects on all levels, from the cultural to the personal? Most definitely. I don't get along well with Jehovah/Yahweh/Yahu--you know, the old Canaanite war deity that most Christians call "God" or "Lord"--but I'm pretty partial to Athena, Shiva, Eshu, and Tyr. I'm actually very open to some things that are often given labels like "spiritual" or even--gasp! Dawkins forgive me!--"occult," but for various reasons I don' see those labels as accurate or even particularly helpful. The bottom line is that I think we've drawn SO MANY lines that our exploration of the universe and our place within it trips over them ("heart" vs. "mind"; "body" vs, "spirit"; "science" vs. "spirituality"; and all the rest. I'd like to find others with whom to live and learn, sing and dance, and create and enjoy. I'm on some other sites here too, in case you're curious.
